If you could choose one super-power, what would it be and why?

Evidently, I'd say the ability to change shape (shape-shifting). That way I'd be able to get any superpower I needed at the moment. If not, then I'd like to be able to fly. <3

Yesterday night, Mum suddenly called for me from the kitchen downstairs. So I stopped what I was doing and went to said kitchen to see why they suddenly needed me. Turns out, there was a dog in our garden (which is just outside our kitchen). And what do you know, the dog was exactly the same dog from this entry. Of course, I ran to him to greet him. Mum almost went berserk, saying I shouldn't touch the dog since it was a stray, but of course, I don't listen to sane advice... He wasn't allowed into the kitchen, sadly. I tried giving him food, but he didn't want it. Then, after a while, I said "bye bye" to him and he left.

Now I have to wonder how the hell the stray got in and if he found me or it was just a really scary coincidence. Funny thing, though, my dog didn't bark at it or anything.

So I decided to go all English Tea today. Not that I actually have miles and miles of English garden... sorry, really bad joke. Uh, anyhow, mum and I were wondering what the hell cucumber sandwiches tasted like. Evidently, we tried them out today, following the second recipe here... except without the paprika 'cause we didn't have any and mun doesn't like it.
They were easy to prepare and really tasty, which I was almost not expecting. We had filled an entire plate with them, and they were gone quite quickly haha. And being the dorks we are (or at least, I know I am. Mum could have been just playing along ;) ), we had tea with our tea sandwiches (else why the hell would they be tea sandwiches is there's no tea).

We still have like half a cucumber left, as well as some of the mayo+cream cheese mixture thing, so I think I know what I'll have for lunch tomorrow.

Gosh, I have too much time on my hands. But anyway, here's a picture of the cucumber sandwiches, which only have one slice of bread instead of two 'cause that saves on bread or something hah.

Behold! )

Another one for the coffee chronicles

Hetalia- Arthur
It seems every time I go out to get coffee from the convenience store, something happens... Perhaps I just need to get out more though.

Anyway, I digress. Today, after a nice dinner, I decided to go get some coffee (you may recall what happened last time I did this). As I was walking down my street (which leads down to the main street, where the convenience store is), I passed by a house with a front garden which houses two dogs. One of them, a German Shepard whom my dog used to go sniff and lick on the snout (don't ask) until the German Shepard tried to bite him, was looking at a (probably stray) dog who was sniffing him and licking his snout (and I have to ask myself: why the hell do all dogs seem to do this with this particular German Shepard?). Then the stray turned around, looked at me, and approached me. It sniffed my trousers (which probably smell just like my dog lol) and I let it smell my hand, after which I proceeded to pat him behind the ears (it seemed like a good idea at the time and it looked friendly enough IDK). So it leaned against my leg on two paws (the front two resting on my leg), and it let me pat his head for a while, a whistful expression on its face (which really made me like the stray ´v´ ). So finally I decided it was time to go, else it would start raining and I'd be outside (and mum would worry if I was gone for too long), so I continued walking towards the convenience store. This is when I noticed the stray started following me. I stopped and scratched it behind the ears again, since it had leaned against me again, and then continued. The dog continued to walk beside me, so I let it come with me. He walked by my side the entire way over to the convenience store, even crossing the street before I did. Then I went inside to buy some things (I was almost sure the dog would follow me inside, but it didn't; it kept walking), and when I went back outside, it wasn't there anymore. I looked for it as I walked back home, but I didn't see it again. I admit I was tempted to bring it home with me (though my dog wouldn't have liked it one bit...). I rather wonder where it is now...
Thanks for the walk, doggie, wherever you are.

Dessert

Since I had nothing better to do (save sleep), I decided to answer this guy.

1) What side of the heart do you draw first?
Left (I’d never noticed it hah)

2) Can you swim without plugging your nose?
Sure I can. In fact, I don’t think I plug my nose except sometimes when I dive.

3) What kind of cell phone do you own?
Sony Ericsson. No idea what model thing, but it’s black and looks like a pebble xD

4) What is your blood-type?
A+, if I remember correctly OTL;;

5) Where would you go to live for the rest of your life if you could?
I’d love to live in Somerset, England. Especially Wells or Bath D: I really do hope I’ll be able to go there soon. Haha;;

6) How do you feel about carrots?
They’re all right, the little orange things. They’re too hard, though, and sometimes you get one that tastes funny and that’s not the least bit amusing. Still, they’re good veggies :D

7) How many chairs are at the dining room table?
Uh… four, I guess? Unless it’s one of those booth ones, in which case, there are two.

8) What color are your socks?
They’re dark blue with red edges, and there’s a red whale with some white & red fish around it near the top. They’re new, actually :B

9) What are your favorite colours?
I’d say my favourite colour is cream (shade of white, y’know…), but I also love blue and green and red. Mostly, I find light tones pleasing to the eye.

10) How many windows are in your room?
Well, there’s only one, but it occupies around 2/3 of the wall it’s on and can be opened on either end, so… yeah, there’s one window lol

11) Do you have aim, yahoo, msn, etc?
Only MSN but you won’t really find me there a lot (I have my status as ‘disconnected’/’off-line’ (or whatever) most of the time, so I’m invisible or something haha)

12) Do you know the song Total Eclipse of the Heart?
Sure thing, but I don’t know the lyrics by heart

13) Do you have any pets?
Yep, a two year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi by the name of Luca. Little rascal…

14) Do you like flowers?
Yes, they’re lovely, but some have a very strong smell and I don’t like that. My favourite flowers are purple iris ´v´

15) What did you do today?
Wake up around 1pm because I had barely slept the day before. Then I had a nice meal with mum and my sister, read a bit of “The Amber Spyglass”, went to the convenience store to buy coffee and a cookie, watched Watchmen, went for a walk with my dog, and then I had dinner. Mostly, that was it.

16) What's your sign?
Cancer and Monkey (a crab and a monkey wtf…)

17) Do you wear a lot of black?
I do, I guess, but it’s mostly sweaters and coats and boots. I tend to wear jeans (which are blue, not black ;; ).

18) Are you close to your family?
Mum, dad, sister and grandmothers, mostly. Sometimes I get to see some of my aunts and uncles and my cousins. The rest of the family I get to see on Christmas and New Year’s, but I cannot actually remember who they are (memory fail)

19) Describe your hair?
Short (as in barely covers my nape) and dark brown with light brown undertones. That’s mostly it, I guess?

20) Ever been arrested?
Nop, and I’d like to keep it that way haha

21) Have you ever had a dream that you were killed in?
Not as far as I can remember.

22) Have you ever cried and started laughing out of nowhere?
Oh yes, but mostly I start tearing up when I laugh a lot. It’s still weird though

23) Do you have a tan?
Nah, particularly pale, actually.

23) When was the last time you went to the mall?
Yesterday. Went to the bookstore and got “The Book Thief”. I was also going to buy “Armageddon in Retrospect”, but being the git I am, I forgot to grab it when I saw it and didn’t remember until I was almost out of the parking lot. Needless to say, mum refused to let me go back.

24) Are you wearing any jewelry?
I am always wearing jewelry. I currently have two necklaces (one with a yin-yang and one with a triquetra), a ring on my left hand with two sort of blue leaves, three round bracelets, two plastic orange bracelets (one on each hand; one was my sister’s and the other one is actually mine), a gold bracelet, a piee of string that was once pink and is about to fall off, two uh… cloth strap things (no idea how to call them, sorry xD) and one says KEANE Perfect Symmetry and has the date of the 2009 Keane Concert here in  Mexico City, and the other one says FullMetal Alchemist. I also have yet another bracelet with several colourful beads and my watch, if you wish to count it too. The only things I take off when I sleep are my watch and ring lol

25) Are you a sugar freak?
I love sweet things, so yeah. But I hate chocolate.

26) Do you like orange juice?
Yeah, but I barely drink any. I also like apple juice and orange juice combined with carrot juice :9

27) What do you want to be when you grow up?
Well, I want to study Industrial Design. Haven’t really decided what then. But I do want to take some courses on World War II and massaging. xD

28) Can you count to ten in more than one language and what language?
Sure thing. I can count to whatever number in Spanish and (maybe) French and I can count up to ten in Japanese. I also know some numbers in Finnish, German and Italian.

29) Do you miss someone?
My grandfathers, I guess, but it’s best not to live in the past, right? (:

30) Are you single?
Yep C:

31) What are your plans for this week?

Well, the week is almost over, but over the weekend I plan to relax and read a lot. Enjoy the time left from the holidays.

Today, I finally ventured behind the steering wheel of the car. :D

That's right! Today I took my first test drive with my dad as my co-pilot. Mind you, I had never been behind the steering wheel (with the car turned on, of course) before, so I was a bit nervous (tense, more like it). We don't have a manual shift car, so I had to learn with an automatic drive (which is apparently much easier). The car kept veering to the right (I think that might have been some subconscious reaction to whenever I saw a car on the left lane, making me veer to the right... yeah) and my movements were rather slow (and uncoordinated), but I think I did rather all right for a first time. Still, sorry to all the drivers behind me OTL;;

Now, I just have to get out of my mind the idea that I am on a bicycle (which is the closest I had ever gotten to driving on the street lol) and that I am now equal to the other drivers xD;; ... and that in order to steer, I need to move the steering wheel a lot and not just a bit as I'd do on a bike.

On other news, my little sister has discovered the wonders of handhelds and now I cannot get her to stop playing Nintendogs on my DS. She can't even read yet, but she can already do mostly everything and has been playing since yesterday afternoon. My, I see a little gamer in the making, hehe <3

The woes of everyday life

Dogs- Badou
I stubbed my toe the other day (I still have no idea where or how though). In the most uncomfortable place, too. I've got a small gash on the left side of my middle toe (left foot, if you care to know), so every time my 4th toe brushes the gash thing on my middle toe, it hurts. I tried using a plaster, but the first one I used was too big and therefore uncomfortable. Then finally I got one of those small round plasters specially made for small wounds, but the adhesive wasn't too strong (I guess?) so it fell off quite quickly. So now I have to wear a big one again and be uncomfortable when I walk or not wear anything and be in pain (not that it's unbearable; not at all, but it's still uncomfortable). Oh, the dilemma.

Still, on the plus side, it's nice to know my biggest concerns are small things like this. <3 Of course, I'm pretty certain if I ever write an autobiography of some sort, my life before adulthood (i.e. up to this point) will just mostly be "Born and raised in Mexico" and I won't have to bore people with petty details such as this. <strike>That's why they've got my LiveJournal for</strike>

What's your favorite dessert?

View Answers

Gosh, that's a tough question. All I know is I have a second stomach for dessert. Yeah! :D But I've gotta say, I am partial to Marie Callender's cakes and pies (especially the banana cream one. Heavenly!). Mostly, I am partial to cakes and pies in general (as long as they're not chocolate flavoured or have too much whipped cream on them).

Thing is, as long as I have something sweet (accompanied with a nice cup of tea, preferably black) after a meal, I am a happy person.

Not that I can complain about old age... yet.

So it's officially my birth date anniversary (a.k.a. birthday), even though I don't actually turn 17 'till 9PM. Still, I can dorkily claim that I am now of legal age in the magical world 8D

Happy birthday to all others who grow older this wonderful day. Now I gotta go to sleep else I won't wake up in the morning lol

Hetalia- Forgiveness like a blanket
Taken from [info]mase992 's journal :D

The Rules:

Put your MP3 player on shuffle, and write down the first line of the first twenty songs. Post the poem that results. The first line of the twenty-first is the title.

The Results:

"Grew up in a small town"

I know you love me
Even now I remember
I went up the cardboard ladder
All the waiters in your grand cafe
If I let go of your hand
No one returns

You look into my eyes
Oceans lay between us and the things that we need
Always on my mind
Rolling along on a Wyoming Highway

This is the one situation
I don't know myself
Time on your side that will never end

Right in front of your eyes
Dancing bears, painted wings
My life is pretty decent, but I feel empty once in a while

When you love someone
Fragile, handle with care
If you say my singing is off-key, love
You've got your mother and your brother

So my err... "shuffle poem" is on crack. Yeeeeah... I don't know. I have no realised I have a hell lot of instrumental songs. And songs in other languages lol. I had to translate like... 60% of the lyrics D:

So.... yeah. I'll post this even though it's so random OTL

I'm a big big fan of steampunk, yeah? Consequently (I guess), I like goggles a lot (it may have something to do with the fact that I find goggles to be plain awesome), and it's always been a bit of a dream of mine to own a pair of really cool-looking goggles. Hell yeah! I don't really care how silly I might look, really xD I'm also a fan of aviation, sort of, though this enthusiasm is more recent... I totally don't think it has to do with the America character from Hetalia and his really awesome bomber jacket; no, it was no influence at all *cough* (I actually think it started around the same time as my WWII interest, tho'. Go figure...). So now, I also want a bomber jacket and an aviator hat (I reached this decision when I was watching Disney/Pixar's Up). I had been racking my brain trying to find a place where I could buy these things and today it finally dawned on me. Seach for them on Amazon.com. So obvious, I had not thought of it before.

So of course, I found what looks like an amazing aviator hat and RAF goggles. Now, of course, I just have to get $160.00 or so... *sigh*

Anyway... DO WANT

Crazy weather

Hetalia- Muumi
Today there was a hailstorm while mum, my sister and I were making our way back home. It had been raining lightly all morning (beautiful light showers which made the temperature drop a little, which was very refreshing). Then suddenly, the sky opened up and temperature went back up along with the radiant sun D: Too hot to walk outside now (according to Jay standards, and that 'too hot' starts at 25°C). So when mum picked me up from my French lesson and we were in the car on our way to the house, it was overcast again and it started to rain. Then the rain thickened and soon we had hail pelting against the car. The storm was at this point was pretty rough. There was wind carrying leaves from one side of the street to the other and the rain was being blown to the side. There was lightning and more hail. Mum couldn't see the road anymore (I could barely make out the rear headlamps of the car in front of us) So mum pulled over and we waited for the storm to pass. I tell you, we had to shout if we wanted to talk.
Still, with water cascading down the street and hail piled up on the sidewalk, it was quite a nice view <: I have never seen snow in my lifetime, but this came a bit close *sadsadIknow* It was still scary as hell, though xD I cannot possibly imagine what one might feel when tennis ball sized hail comes down. Good Gods...

On movies and adaptations

  • 25th Jun, 2009 at 11:14 PM
Dessert
Generally speaking, the book will always (always) be better than any film based off it. Mostly, this is because one has to fit a (generally speaking) long novel into a roughly 2 hour visual media, that is to say, the movie. There are also some other factors, of course, like different points of view from what you as a reader gather from what you're reading and what the director (and script writers) gather from their own personal reading. In a novel, of course, the writer has the freedom of being able to delve into the minds of the characters and thoroughly explore what they're thinking, what might have happened before the events of the novel (i.e. character's past, etc), talk about trivial events, describe a scene with great detail, and many more things.
But what the hell is my point in all this? Well, as usual, there isn't one, but that's not really important, is it? So, whenever I read a book and then watch the movie adaptation, I tend to be disappointed. Generally speaking, it'll be because the film somehow clashes with my "version" of the novel. Either characters are nothing like I imagined them, important scenes are cut from the movie, things are unnecessarily changed, things are added, scenery doesn't work for me, and I could go on, but really, you get my point. This has happened to me with the Harry Potter films, with Twilight (I'm not saying the books are great, but the movie sucked big time. Seriously, women, just think a little and see how bad the whole thing is!), with Angels and Demons, with the English Patient, with Dracula... And yet, if I watch the film first and then read the book it was based on, then I do enjoy the movie (if it's good, of course) and I enjoy the book even more. My teacher and I were discussing once whether it was better to watch then read or vice versa (we never actually reached an agreement, but did say it'd be better just to read the book haha) and she did say that the bad thing about watching the movie first was that she wouldn't be able to make up her own image of the characters after having seen the actors. This doesn't happen to me, and best example I can think of right now is Tristran from Neil Gaiman's Stardust. Totally different images (though I did picture Yvaine quite similar to Claire Danes *cough*). Or Robert Langdon, character from Dan Brown's novels.
Sometimes, of course, the bad thing about watching the movie first is that when reading the novel, you actually already know what happens in the end (unless of course, they change the storyline). This happened to me with Atonement. I watched the movie last year or so and bought the book not a month ago. Finished it today (I took quite a while, I'd say, but it was a fantastic read). Unfortunately, since I already knew um... well, everything, it was not such a gripping read as it would have been had I not watched the film first. Still, I decided to rewatch the movie after reading it (almost as soon as I put the book down I was turning the DVD player on), which tends to be a terrible idea. This time though, I have to say, I have never seen a better adaptation of a novel. Of course, a lot of things were cut out, of course we don't get the character insight as we do in the novel, and Briony's motives for doing what she did are not as clear in the movie as they are in the book (and I still don't get why she's blonde in the movie if she was dark haired in the book, but hey, the girl is a tremendously good actress; she portrayed Briony's character really really well), but I actually found myself going back to the dialogue in my mind and saying "Hey, it's the same here as in the book!" or remembering some things from the background being described or mentioned (like the little animals on Briony's room; the amount of small details astounded me), or actually remembering the same clothes being described in the book (the green dress Cecilia is wearing, for instance). Overall, I think the director did a fantastic job on the adaptation. And the soundtrack is beautiful; powerful, even. And this was the main point for this entry.

Yeah...

Now, I should really get some sleep...

FMA- Awesomeness
Just finished watching Hot Fuzz (it's currently almost 1:00AM and I'm supposed to be up by 6:00AM... ah, well, who needs 8 hours of sleep anyway?). Good gods, it is the most epic police officer movie I have ever seen... albeit, the only one, I think. It was really really funny (and also really really really gory, which I was not expecting. I mean, there's this part where a guy's head explodes after he's sort of uh... impaled (?) by a sharp, pointy, falling rock... yeah. It still rocked) and I hadn't had such a good laugh in a while, even if I can't actually laugh out loud if I don't want to wake the entire house up.

Now, have a totally awesome quote from the movie:

"Well, there was the bit that you missed where I distracted him with the cuddly monkey then I said "play time's over" and I hit him in the head with the peace lily."

And then as  was writing this, the lights went out (it's raining) and I actually jumped in my seat. Not a good idea to watch a movie that has murders when it's already dark, I guess lol.

Well, I'm off to sleep.

Describe your dream house (even if it's not a house).

View Answers

My, my, hadn't thought about my dream house for a while, though in my mind, I've it perfectly visualised already. My dream house is only one story high, rectangular, and has a view to the ocean The walls on the part of the house facing the ocean are only wall-high windows (mum insists that'd be a pain to clean, but I don't care haha), giving a nice view of the water and the sky... and I've no idea how else to call those wall-windows, sorry...
Anyway, the entrance is on the (assuming the window area is south) northwest portion of the house, and upon entering, you arrive at the living room (which is the room with the windows), which has a wooden floor, nice sofa facing the ocean, looong bookcase on the north wall, and some other things (IDK). On the far right north wall is the door leading to the kitchen, which is roughly... bit less than half the length of the house. The kitchen has glass doors leading to a small garden on the front portion of the house, where there is a table and a few chairs. Next to the front door, there is a snail stairway (okay, I lied, it's not one story high haha...) leading to the bedroom and bathroom (perhaps a small studio as well). The bedroom has a small balcony with a view of the front garden.
I think that's mostly it. As you can see, this would not be the best place to have people over (unless they could sleep on the couch? j/k), but in my mind, it looks really beautiful, especially during twilight.

How many languages do you speak?

Submitted By [info]40alatariel

View Answers

Fluently, only Spanish (my native language) and English (which has lately been a weird combination of English from the USA and the UK... I blame the fact that I had to take the Cambridge FCE this year for that). I'm currently studying French, though I can't speak it properly yet, considering I've only been at it for 3 months or so. I can understand a bit of Japanese (and also speak it a bit, but only a little bit). I can also speak like two words of Finnish (pretty much literally...) but I can't understand it. How sad; Finnish is such a beautiful language. I guess I can understand a bit of Italian and Portuguese, but hey, wouldn't brag about it...

I think I'm not missing anything.

No, I would not want to live in a world without dragons, as I would not want to live in a world without magic, for that is a world without mystery, and that is a world without faith."

I found it quite interesting (and true, I suppose, hah). So... yeah, enjoy, I guess?

The French term "l'esprit de l'escalier," which translates literally as "the wit of the staircase," refers to those perfect, clever comebacks that you only think of after the fact. What's the best came-too-late comeback you've ever had?

Aaah, so that sort of situation actually has a name. I dunno, I have these things all the time (I'm a slow thinker, really; more like... I like doing everything slowly xD) so I can't really think of any specific one right now. I do stress over them a lot though. You know, the rest of the day/week after whatever happened, I keep telling myself "Gaaah, you should've said this!" I'd really like it if it were proper (and not lame) to give comeback a lot of time after the discussion/thing.

Whoever thought placing metal things on one's mouth was a good idea, anyway? My gums are all sore right now and I can't chew. It's very frustrating, I tell you. Yesterday I was trying to eat a delicious octopus cocktail and I couldn't.

Oh woe is me. But I'll shut up now.

If you could live in any era of history, which one would you choose?

View Answers

I would really liked to have been alive during the 1930's and 1940's (and being in my 20's in the 40's... and that's a lot of " 's" words). I think the music of the time was great and just thinking about all the important advances made during that time... well, it makes me giddy, seriously (or something like that. It amazes me how many things were done back then). Of course, living through war would not be a particularly pleasant thing (to put this in nice words here; seriously would be quite scary) but I still think I would love to have lived back then.

If they ever make a time machine, be certain I'll go there.
